design intentions

WHAT IS THE DESIGN PROBLEM THAT I AM TRYING TO SOLVE WITH MY PROJECT? I am trying to make moving and arranging a room of furniture be easier, more flexible, and overall more spatially efficient.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NUANCES TO THIS DESIGN? The arms on this device will be retractable and easily movable to any location in the room. When you are done sitting or eating with the furniture the arms will pack up into the main shaft allowing the room to again be full of space and no longer cluttered with furniture. Layouts in the room would be configurable and could be programmed into the device for convenience if a particular layout was preferred. Any form of furniture or device could be attached to the end of the tubes such as a lamp, table, chair, couch etc.

How would this device, itself, act as a furnished piece? Would it be decorated? Where's it positioned in the room? Could it be moved?

This piece would act as a structural support beam. Also! it could have flowers painted on it.
