Here's my scene with my creepy crawlies. I chose this because my studio has this poorly lit hallway that leads into it, and I've thought it would be creepy if i had to leave and something scary was blocking my path.

This is my revised bug i made, it's intended to look kind of spider and ant like. I think the shadows and general shape of the bug makes it play along much nicer with our phobia theme.

This is my first bug creation, not really that scary nor do i think it really came out that well.

Here's my screwdriver. kinda a mean looking screwdriver if you ask me.

This is my quick creation of a knight chess piece.

With these I took some of the advice given from my class and modified the panels to look and convey the story better. Hope you all like it!

This is my rough thumbnail size sketch for my narrative. It's about getting two chickens like my sister and I did when we were little, and the chickens being amazing and killing a huge bug =P.

film club site

I'm working on a website for the UFO (university film organization) and here is my primary idea for the layout. I like it because it ties in the saucer going with their name (UFO) and it ties in film via the film reel and actual film. Any suggestions are welcome.

Final rendering

Here's my final rendering

final project/class

I have really enjoyed this zero week class. I feel the pacing and time allocating to our various tasks was well thought out and effectively distributed. I never have taken a zero week class before and I was nervous it would be a rush from start to finish with no time to breath. Fortunately this was not the case. I felt a lot of information was taught during this week long period, but I feel it was taught at a pace that was comfortable even though fairly quick. The environment created was enjoyable and rather stress free. I enjoyed being able to have lots of individual time getting my questions answered, and as a result I feel I have learned an immense amount about blender when before Monday this week I knew nothing. Truthfully I have little to provide as far as suggestions go, I believe the information and techniques were provided at a pace which was easy to absorb; never did I feel too much got slapped in my face or too little so I was twiddling my thumbs. The videos and discussions we had were also very stimulating and interesting. I liked how the class was flexible enough to go in various directions depending on what interested people. All in all I would not change much with this course because it was an AWESOME week. I look forward to the 10 week version of this course to further explore Blender and all that it is capable of.

My final project went very well and I feel very satisfied with how it turned out despite only getting 3 1/2 days to think of an idea, design it, and render it. The techniques I learned to create the movable flexible furniture device will be valuable and applicable to many future tasks which is what makes this all so exciting! Generally things went fairly smoothly and I never had to experience any terrible set backs. I feel my understanding of the extrude tool is finally beginning to shed light as I created the table, chairs, TV, and pictures frames with little difficulty. Thanks for the class John!

update

Just an update on my final project. This version includes some furniture attached at the end of the tubes.

design intentions

WHAT IS THE DESIGN PROBLEM THAT I AM TRYING TO SOLVE WITH MY PROJECT? I am trying to make moving and arranging a room of furniture be easier, more flexible, and overall more spatially efficient.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NUANCES TO THIS DESIGN? The arms on this device will be retractable and easily movable to any location in the room. When you are done sitting or eating with the furniture the arms will pack up into the main shaft allowing the room to again be full of space and no longer cluttered with furniture. Layouts in the room would be configurable and could be programmed into the device for convenience if a particular layout was preferred. Any form of furniture or device could be attached to the end of the tubes such as a lamp, table, chair, couch etc.

high quality

This are just a couple higher quality renderings of the photon light. I used some textures i borrowed from the blender database.

photon light

My modeling of a photon light keychain LED.
The first image is a higher quality rendering of the LED photon light key chain.

vase and cup

This is just another rendering with using subsurfing and extrude faces to make a vase and a wine glass.

cubes

First use with blender I made a pretty darn sweet cube. It made it a shpadoinkle day. My first impressions with blender are good. It seems like a very powerful and useful tool and I look forward to exploring it further.

organic ideas

While looking around I found the raspberry design to be very pleasing and potentially functional. I could envision it as a useful storage device with a aesthetic appeal. I also found the curling and unfolding of palm tree like leaves to make a great lamp like shape which could light the room more or less depending on the degree in which the leaves were unfolded.
